Laser Skin Resurfacing

About Our Skin

As we go through life, our once smooth, baby-soft skin begins to show changes which reflect our age and life experiences. There are some things we cannot control such as genetics, skin type and effects of gravity. Exposure to the sun, use of alcohol, poor nutrition, acne and smoking accelerate the signs of aging. Scars from acne and chicken-pox, as well as skin discoloration have kept people from having more beautiful skin.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

The carbon dioxide laser was among the first lasers used in medicine over thirty years ago. Modern computer technology has allowed the CO2 laser to become an extremely precise instrument used for laser skin resurfacing. This process allows Dr. Saloom to greatly reduce skin imperfections in a safe and controlled treatment session, as the laser removes the skin layer by layer and stimulates the collagen of the deeper skin to regenerate and tighten. This results in smoother, healthier looking skin.

This procedure is performed on an outpatient basis. Discomfort can vary from patient to patient, so Dr. Saloom will discuss which method of anesthesia is best for you. Be assured that the appropriate medication will be used to make you comfortable during and after the procedure. All risks will be discussed during a consultation before the treatment.

Afterward

Immediately following your treatment, the area will be very red and sensitive. The treated area will continue to peel and weep typically for 7 – 10 days. The redness, which can then be covered with makeup and sunblock, gradually fades to pink and resolves in several weeks. Avoidance of sun is very important during the healing process, and we encourage the use of sunscreens in all makeups afterward.

Eyelid Rejuvenation

Blepharoplasty means plastic surgery of the eyelids. The effects of age and gravity cause the skin above and below the eyes to be droopy. This can make it difficult to keep the eyes open and may obstruct vision. Laser blepharoplasty removes the excess skin and puffiness of the upper eyelids. The incision is hidden within the eyelid’s natural crease and usually heals without noticeable scarring. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty can remove the bags from inside the eyelid without stitches or any skin incisions.

During your personal consultation, Dr. Saloom will discuss realistic expectations and risks of this procedure and then determine if you are a potential candidate. Though results vary, hundreds of people have found laser skin resurfacing by Dr. Saloom to be a great benefit in improving their appearance.
